A new wide field 4m diameter telescope called VISTA(Visible and Infrared Survey Telescope for Astronomy)will provide astronomers with new vistas of the southern skies when it begins its deep infrared imaging surveys in 2007.The large collecting area and 1.65 deg diameter field of view,coupled with a 64 Megapixel infrared camera,working over the 1.0-2.3mm rane,will make it the world's largest IR camers,the pre-eminent survey machine for the next decade.
