As a veterinary technician and animal transfer coordinator in a large institutional setting, I've had the opportunity to see many species I otherwise would only read about and to gain first-hand experience with these species' anatomy, physiology and care and treatment needs. Overseeing the sentinel program provided me with the opportunity to challenge my skills in disease detection, necropsy, blood draw and organization in order to preserve the well-being of the entire rodent facility. The technicians, supervisors and managers all work together to make sure that there is no cross-contamination. It takes a team of people to make an outstanding facility.
