Watchdog gives trusts clean financial bill of health for the coming year

INDEPENDENT REGULATOR Monitor has set out the main challenges facing foundation trusts in its review of the acute care sector. According to the review of NHS foundation trusts' annual plans (2012/13), there are still problems to be overcome in meeting greater demand and rigorous healthcare targets while delivering significant savings each year.Monitor's chief operating officer Stephen Hay says: 'In the short term, the sector's balance sheet is in good shape and trusts have planned sufficient cost savings in the year ahead.'
