摘要

Jocelyn, manager of an orthopedic inpa-tient unit, has been a supervisor for 3 months. She has several candidates to interview for two positions in the unit. Betty, a recent nursing school grad, is the first interview. Jocelyn asks Betty how old she was when she began nursing school. Betty responds that she was 41 years old. Then Jocelyn asks if Betty had children before going to school. Betty, obviously uncomfortable, answers, "Yes." Jocelyn asks who'll take care of the children when Betty works, and inquires if Betty is married. Betty states she's divorced and that her children are in school so child care isn't necessary. Jocelyn asks, "What if they get sick? Who'll stay with them?" Betty answers that her mother helps her with the kids.
