When brigid tarr first set foot on Cheltenham Beach, Devonport, as a 20-year-old, she knew that she was going to live there one day. She and her now husband of 30 years, WayneMoffat, had been visiting friends flatting at one end of the beach and the place completely captivated Brigid."Wow, when you arrived you were immediately drawn to the water, Rangitoto, the light, the openness, the feeling of the bay itself and the pohutukawas. I knew in my heart from that first time that, somehow, some way, we too would live on this beach. I didn't care if it was in a tepee; emotionally, I had connected."Brigid isn't one to allow herself to be deflected from her purpose - "where there's a will there's a way sort of thing" - but the journey to Cheltenham has been a long one. In the intervening years, the couple has lived overseas in London and in severaldifferent homes in Hamilton and Auckland before closing in on Brigid's goal with the purchase of a large four-bedroom villa a block away from Cheltenham Beach.
