Reflecting on achievements can lead to even greater successes

As a practice nurse, I am fortunate to work as part of a close-knit team, and with a manager who understands the importance of identifying and acknowledging what works well.This is especially important for the morale of non-clinical staff, such as receptionists, who do a sterling job but do not get the rewards experienced by nurses of seeing positive outcomes in clinical consultations.We use a range of methods to highlight and reflect on positive events. Our regular critical incident analysis meetings enable us to share best practice and regular patient questionnaires invite feedback on the overall experience of care. The results are shared widely among the team and back to patients' by way of newsletters, meetings and displays in the surgery.
