Placement performance to play key role in students' final marks.

Nursing students are increasingly being graded on practice placements as part of their final degree and diploma courses, Nursing Standard has learned.Undergraduates who start studying children, adult or mental health nursing at University of Southampton next month will for the first time be graded by their practice mentor after each placement.Midwifery programme leader Ellen Kitson-Reynolds, who has piloted the scheme, said students will be marked on areas such as communication, attitude and team work, and marks will hold equal weight with academic performance in the final grade.'We are acknowledging the hard work that students put into placements,' she said.
