During a placement in my first year, I was asked to chaperone an intimate examination. The patient was admitted due to vaginal bleeding at 12 weeks' pregnant.The doctor inserted a speculum with not so much as a word to the patient I tried to explain to the woman, as best I could, what the doctor was doing.The doctor then asked me to pass her the forceps. When the patient heard this, she became distressed. I asked the doctor what they were for and she replied, 'never mind'.
