Amateur boxing and risks of chronic traumatic brain injury

Amateur boxing is becoming an increasingly popular participation sport for both sexes in the UK, particularly at universities. The safety of boxing is an issue that stimulates emotive responses, and calls to ban the sport continue.A systematic review of observational studies by researchers at the English Institute of Sport and Barts and the London NHS Trust assesses the risk of chronic traumatic brain injury with amateur boxing (Loosemore et al 2007).
