As luck would have it, I am writing this editorial the week of Thanksgiving. This is clearly a very good time for an editor to look back and look ahead at what she (in this case) is thankful for. The first item on my "editor gratitude list" is an addition to the journal family. Nursing Outlook was recently selected as the official journal for the Council for Advancement of Nursing Science (CANS). CANS was created in 2000 and the stated mission is to "Foster Better Health through Nursing Science." CANS is an open membership entity of the American Academy of Nursing and the executive council consists of representatives of the 4 regional nursing research societies, the American Nurses Foundation, Sigma Theta Tau International, and the National Institute of Nursing Research.
