Auto-tensioners for timing belts

摘要

The timing belt tensioner applies tension to the timing belt for the camshaft drive in automotive engines. Recently, automatic tension adjusting capability has become popular and NSK has developed a compact and lightweight auto-tensioner with a multi-disk damper and high-viscosity silicone oil. The auto-tensioner absorbs tension fluctuation using a damper in the pulley bearing. As a result, automatic tension adjustment is provided without changing the design of conventional fixed-type tensioners. NSK obtained good results on timing belt noise when reviewing the new auto-tensioner design. This report explains the structure, performance features and characteristics of these auto-tensioners.
