The results of the assignment were as varied as the students, but each came away with a new found skill of using previous course work in the humanities and their own experiences to describe patients in a way that they had never done before.The 6 junior year nursing students in my clinical group were adept at head-to-toe assessments, administering medications, and accomplishing tasks necessary for their patients. I wanted to challenge these students with an assignment that had them view their patients holisti-cally, was thought provoking, and fun. They were divided into 3 groups of 2 students. Each group would write a paper that described the essence of their patients using art and literature. They could use previous course work/ experiences to complete the project.
