Die Devon-Zeitskala der Stratigraphischen Tabelle von Deutschland 2002

Isotopic ages from the Silurian (1), Devonian (6) and lowermost Carboniferous (4) which were available in 2001 are used as isotopic tie points to calibrate the Devonian part of Stratigraphische Tabelle von Deutschland 2002 (STD 2002) numerically. The time relations in between the tie points are derived from the Devon-Korrelationstabelle of Weddige (1996ff.). The numerical ages of the stage boundaries are estimated as young as possible using the analytical and stratigraphical error bars of the IDTIMS U-Pb with a few other ages, whereas the error bars of the SHRIMP ages are used to get a maximum age for the Devonian-Carboniferous boundary of 358 Ma. Thus, a geologically implausible stretching of the latest Devonian to earliest Carboniferous stratigraphic units can be avoided.
