Der Zeitabschnitt Proterozoikum - Silur in der Stratigraphischen Tabelle von Deutschland 2002

The German Neoproterozoic (Riphean, Vendian), Cambrian and Ordovician have been described in parts I-III of Stratigraphy of Germany II (Stratigraphische Kommission Deutschlands 1997, 2001 a,b). These glossaries constituted the data base for the description of selected units in the Stratigraphic Table of Germany 2002. It is expected to publish a Silurian monograph in 2005.The stratigraphy of the German regional parts from Neoproterozoic to Silurian is briefly outlined. Their international correlation and the geotectonic position of the sedimentation areas are discussed. Within Cambrian to Silurian strata, the content of index fossils, and consequently the biostratigraphic significance are varying substantially, according to the degree of regional tectonometamorphic overprint.
