The first NFPA Large-Loss Fire Report appears in the Quarterly

The Quarterly distinguished itself with its exhaustive collection of fire and fire fighting stories, making it the source for lessons learned and ways to prevent fires. NFPA's first publication of its large-loss fires appeared in the January 1932 issue of the Quarterly. The large-loss report now appears annually in the November/December issue of NFPA Journal. The first report covered 43 fires in 1931 with losses each exceeding USD250,000, which is approximately USD3.4 million in 2007 dollars when adjusted for inflation. The total loss for the year was USD25,388,000, which is approximately a USD290 million loss today.
