摘要

In this paper the responses of the absolute central moments at gray level discontinuities are analyzed and a generalized form of the first absolute central moment is proposed as edge detector. The operator provides a ridge map similar to the one provided by the gradient of Gaussian (GoG) magnitude. However, a class of nonlinear filters originates from the analysis of the first absolute moment in the presence of noise. Hence, the recovered edge information can be also combined to obtain information that would not be obtained by varying the parameters of the original filter. Moreover, the mass center of the first absolute central moment can be defined and a new edge detection procedure can be developed. [References: 11]
