Legend has it that eating lotus fruit induces a dreamy state of forgetfulness and an unwillingness to leave the spot where it is eaten. But if you're lucky enough to get the chance to relax by a pond of lotus in bloom, you'll find you don't have to nibble on anything at all to fall into a dreamlike state that is difficult to rouse yourself from.
