Drawing on his analysis of the European and Russian wood products industry published in April, Taylor painted a picture of an industry not merely poised for take off but well and truly accelerating down the runway. "There's lots going on in Russia, whether it's actual or planned activities and investment, and it all ties back to the Russian timber," says Taylor. "The quality is there. A lot of it is old growth, 150-200 years old, but it's also low cost. The timber is fine-grained, good in appearance and very good in structural stability, and the supply is increasing. That means log and lumber exports are increasing as well. And there is lots and lots of investment going in there.
