THE TOUGHER STANDARDS will typically require double-glazed windows and more insulation in the walls and ceilings. This will result in new homes using about 30% less energy to achieve comfortable indoor air temperatures. The new rules take effect in most of the rest of the North Island from July 2008, and for Auckland and further north from October 2008.
