Steel Dynamics Inc. (SDI) plans to begin constructing a cold-rolling and finishing facility for carbon sheet in June. The company has awarded contracts for pickling, annealing, galvanizing, and cold-rolling equipment, but it has not yet selected a supplier for electrical motors and controls, says SDI CEO Keith Busse. The 200 million dollars facility will be adjacent to the SDI steel mill in Butler, Ind. Davy International will supply a continuous pickling line as well as two hot-dip galvanizing lines for processing hot-rolled and cold-rolled coils. The pickler's annual capacity will be 1.4 million tons. One galvanizing line, rated at 400,000 tons per year, will be capable of processing light-gage hot band down to 0.030 inch thick. The other line, for galvanizing cold-rolled coils, will have an annual capacity of 300,000 tons.
