An autopsy case of polymicrogyria and intracerebral calcification with death by intracerebral hemorrhage

The patient was a 36-year-old man who was born without asphyxia to healthy parents who were otherwise unrelated. He had no family history of neurological disorders, but his elder sister died of unknown cause 1 week after birth. He showed severe psychomotor developmental delay, failed to acquire head control or independent sitting ability, and had been bedridden since infancy due to spastic tetraplegia. He developed myoclonic and tonic seizures at 7 months, which could not be controlled by various anticonvulsants. He developed regurgitant esophagitis and repetitive respiratory infections and was admitted to the Tokyo Metropolitan Fuchu Medical Center for the Disabled at the age of 16.
