Plant Nutrition:Right Fertilizer and in the Right Quantity!

Dr. Ricardo Melgar (INTA, Argentina) gave a lecture about the "Effect of potassium sources in vegetables in saline-risk irrigated areas of Argentina". This work was the winner of the SOPIB 2015 award, which was handed over to him during the conferencein New Delhi by the president of SOPIB, Mr. Frank Biot, VP of SQM. "Argentina is the third country with a sizeable halomorphic soils area in the world after Russia and Australia. 1,5 million hectares suffer from natural salinization and at least 250.000hectares have been affected by secondary soil salinization due to agriculture. The soils affected by salts are primarily irrigated and non-irrigated soils in arid and semi-arid environments. In Argentina there are 2,1 million hectares under irrigation,of which, 70% is under gravity systems, 21% use sprinklers, 8% drip and 1 % micro-jet.
