LNG, CNG Infrastructure Getting Boost in California and Louisiana

The big question surrounding the use of compressed natural gas or LNG as a transportation fuel is which comes first, the infrastructure or the vehicles? Last week in California and Louisiana, the first part of that question — the blank on infrastructure — was filled in as major projects were announced. In Louisiana, Pivotal LNG—a subsidiary of AGL Resources — signed an agreement with Encana Natural Gas to supply LNG that Encana will offer to service providers operating fleet trucks in the Haynesville Shale play. Studies are also under way on converting drilling rigs in the Haynesville from diesel to LNG. While the Louisiana project will be aimed at large commercial vehicles, across the country in Santa Ana, California, a project aimed at helping drivers with CNG-powered trucks and cars is now open.
