As expected, the Marcellus Shale formation and the neighboring Utica Shale have attracted new sources of industrial demand to the greater Appalachian region and this trend has been illustrated by several new projects announced during the last couple of weeks from the petrochemical sector and the beleaguered steel industry.Recognizing the ethane potential from the liquids-rich window of the Marcellus, Enterprise Products Partners has unveiled plans for a binding open season for an ethane pipeline designed to transport 125,000 barrels per day from the Marcellus and Utica shale regions in Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Ohio to the US Gulf Coast.
