Plan Directing Macondo Fines to Gulf Coast States Under Scutiny

A move by some Gulf Coast congressional members to make sure their states get the lion's share of funds from any penalties collected from the Macondo well disaster is being met with opposition by fellow members of Congress. During a Houston House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee hearing last week, Gulf Coast congressmen said the money collected from BP and others involved in the spill — which could amount of more than $21 billion — is needed to restore the coast.
