Indiana Bill Protects Coal from CBM

An Indiana state legislator has introduced a bill that would regulate the state's coalbed methane production and in doing so, protect traditional coal operations. At first blush, House Bill 1265 sounds simple enough - if passed and signed into law, it will regulate CBM wells and set alternative spacing in addition to unit and bonding requirements for drillers. The bill went to the state House of Representative's Commerce Committee on Jan. 25 for its first official hearing.
