Economist: Despite Price Gains, Texas E&P Industry Still Hurting

More than 100,000 energy jobs were lost in the Lone Star State from December 2014 through May as the E&P industry continues to weather the ongoing downturn, according to the latest Texas Petro Index. And the pain will probably continue despite a glimmer of hope in the shape of higher crude prices — averaging $43.38 per barrel in May, up from a February average of $27.08/bbl. Natural gas prices continued to stay below $2 per thousand cubic feet in May, averaging $1.76/Mcf, unchanged from April (NGW Jun.6'16).
