Haynesville Play Still Boosting Lease Proceeds For Bayou State

The Haynesville Shale took the center stage at last week's state lease sale by the Louisiana Mineral Board. And it's a good thing that it did, said Don Briggs, president of the Louisiana Oil & Gas Association. Of the 29 leases sold, 23 were in the Haynesville Shale play. The board collected more than $12.1 million in bonuses in the sale, bringing the total collected for the financial year that began Jul. 1 to more than $22.7 million. The sale ranks as the fifth highest in the past five years - coming in after the low showing of only $29,000 collected by the state in the September sale.
