Two Eastern Canadian provinces embarked on different approaches to hydraulic fracturing this week, with Nova Scotia banning the practice for two years while neighboring New Brunswick granted a five-year license to Calgary-based Windsor Energy to explore for natural gas. The Nova Scotia government said it wanted to hold off on making a decision regarding the impacts of fracking until reports have been issued by Environment Canada and the US Environment Protection Agency, particularly with regard to how the technology might affect water resources and cause earthquakes
