Even as most US independent E&Ps aim to ramp down dry gas-focused drilling in favor of oil and liquids-rich gas development, the Marcellus Shale has remained a mainstay of activity given the play's robust economics even at sub-$4.50/MMBtu Henry Hub benchmark natural gas prices (NGW Dec.27,p1). But one company — US integrated Marathon Oil — does not appear to share their enthusiasm for the northeast US play.
