Study: Oil, Gas and, Yes, Coal Vital to Texas

Texas has long been considered the leading jewel in the US energy crown when it comes to oil and natural gas. But coal? According to a recent study by the Texas Public Policy Foundation — Texas Energy and the Energy of Texas it might not be too farfetched to peg Texas as a "Coal State." Production of all three energy sources are vital to the state — but coal is usually in the shadows when compared with its more visible cousins, oil and natural gas. Oil and natural gas production in the Lone Star State has soared — thanks in part to new drilling technologies that have opened up the Barnett, Eagle Ford and the Haynesville shales along with the Permian Basin, the study says.
