Oil Sands, Not Gas, Boosting Canadian Earnings

Most large Canadian producers benefited from higher oil and oil sands prices as they managed natural gas production to minimize the impact of lower prices and reduced demand. Imperial Oil first-quarter profit rose 64% on higher oil sands production and rich refining margins. Net natural gas output was up marginally. The Canadian affiliate of Exxon Mobil earned C$781 million (US $822 million) (91c/share) on revenues of $6.9 billion, up from a year-earlier income of $476 million (56c/share) on revenues of $6.2 billion.
