North Carolina Creates Offshore Wind Task Force

North Carolina Gov. Bev Perdue has created an offshore wind task force while vetoing a state bill that would have pushed offshore drilling for oil and natural gas, appeasing the concerns of several local environmental groups. The Energy Jobs Act aimed at creating jobs in North Carolina by exploring and developing offshore energy in federal and state waters, according to the North Carolina Chamber. But in vetoing the measure, Perdue issued two executive orders regarding the state's energy policy. The first created an offshore wind economic development task force of federal, state and local government officials that would identify viable lease blocks for the production of offshore wind energy. The executive order says that studies have shown the waters off the North Carolina coast have enough wind resources to generate about 130% of the state's total energy use.
