Fracking Bill Becomes Law In California

As promised, California Gov. Jerry Brown has signed into a law regulations for hydraulic fracturing in the state. Under the new law, California will require E&P companies get permits to use fracturing. As part of this new permitting process, companies will have to list the ingredients in fracking fluid and notify any nearby landowner of their drilling plans. Under the new law, operators will have to get a new category of permits before they use fracking as well as acidizing — a drilling technique where hydrofluoric acid and other corrosive acids are used to dissolve shale rock (NGW Sep. 1613).
