UK Study Shows Little Danger to Groundwater From Hydrofracking

A UK university research report found little danger that hydraulic fracturing could contaminate groundwater provided wells are sufficiently deep. The study follows a report published by the UK government's Department of Energy and Climate Change, which found hydraulic fracturing could safely resume in the UK, despite having caused earth tremors in the north of England last year. Durham University's research, conducted in conjunction with universities in Wales and Norway, studied records from eight fracking sites in the US, Europe and Africa. None of the fractures exceeded 1,970 feet vertically, with most being much less than 820 feet, the report said.
