Canada Faces Up to Carbon Capture Challenges

Lack of national laws requiring carbon capture and sequestration (CCS) projects in Canada or even development of standards that would be applicable in each of the country's 13 provinces and territories is deterring efforts to reduce carbon dioxide emissions. In typical Canadian fashion, however, industry and academia formed their own organization in 2008 to address that issue. Carmen Dybwad is chief executive of International Performance Assessment Centre for the geologic storage of carbon dioxide, known as IPAC-CO2.
