The opportunity afforded by US unconventional oil and gas resources is staggering, offering the US an unprecedented path to both prosperity and a greener future. But it will take arriving at a middle ground where industry, environmentalists, lawmakers and regulators can work together for the benefit of everyone. Sound Utopian? Researchers at the Harvard Business School and The Boston Consulting Group (BCG) don't think so. It is an attainable goal that first requires rejecting "false trade-offs between reaping the enormous economic benefits of developing unconventional gas and oil, minimizing environmental impacts and making major progress toward reduced greenhouse gas emissions."
