Lawmakers from major coal-producing states are seeking solutions to chip away at investment barriers feeing clean coal technologies by overhauling federal research programs, clearing away red tape and changing the US tax code. The latest proposal from US Sen. Heidi Heitkamp (D-North Dakota) would include an expanded tax credit for carbon capture and storage (CCS) technologies and "variable price support" for companies that capture carbon dioxide (C02).
