Bakken Producers Flare More Gas, Oil E&P Moving to Gassier Areas

No matter how low commodity prices go, Bakken Shale oil wells can't seem to stop producing natural gas. And that's not good news for North Dakota, where about one-fifth of that gas is being flared into the atmosphere because it has nowhere else to go. North Dakota gas output inched up about 0.5% in July to a record 1.657 billion cubic feet per day, the state Department of Mineral Resources (DMR) reported last week. Nearly all gas in the Bakken is produced in association with crude oil, which remained near its own record level of 1.2 million barrels per day in July.
