McMoRan Nears Milestone at Davy Jones Field

After two years of anticipation, McMoRan Exploration is making final preparations to flow test its ultra-deep, sub-salt, Davy Jones discovery well in the shallow-water Gulf of Mexico. The well is one of the deepest ever drilled in the shallow-water Gulf. Though it reached its total depth of just under 29,000 feet - or roughly 5.5 miles below the seafloor - in early 2010, the extreme temperatures and pressures associated with these depths have required feats of engineering to ensure the flow test process proceeds smoothly (NGW Jan.18'10).
