Report: Electric Cars Won't Take Off Until Consumer Needs Met

Obama administration hopes of launching a vast fleet of electric vehicles (EVs) is nothing more than a pipe dream unless it faces up to the real problem with rolling them out — consumer resistance. According to the report Broadband Electricity and The Free-Market Path to Electric Cars, authored by Peter W. Huber, the effort has been focused on making the batteries powering the cars smaller and cheaper so that the technology would become more acceptable. But Huber argues that the no matter how cheap or small you get those batteries, the key is the consumer's comfort level with the car itself.
