Poland Looking to North America To Lessen Need for Russian Supply

Poland has never felt comfortable living next door to the powerful Russian bear. After spending much of the 20th century under the control of its eastern neighbor, the country is now eager to rid itself of dependence on Russian natural gas, a direct legacy of the Soviet era. Poland is looking far and wide for gas supplies - even all the way to the US, which will soon become a gas exporter. Gaz-System, operator of Poland's under-construc-tion LNG terminal, is currently negotiating with three potential suppliers in North America, the company's chief executive Jan Chadam told Reuters last week.
