PetroChina to Set Up Shale Gas Joint Ventures in Sichuan Basin

State-controlled PetroChina will soon establish at least two joint ventures with local governments and businesses — including private firms — to explore and develop shale gas potential in China's prolific Sichuan Basin, NGW sister publication International Oil Daily learns. The move comes after China's Ministry of Land and Resources proposed creating a special shale gas zone in the basin in order to break PetroChina and Sinopec's duopoly on its reserves.
