Noble Pays Fines for Problems on Arctic Drilling Units Used by Shell

One loose end of Shell Oil's attempt to drill in Arctic waters off the coast of Alaska in 2012 was tied up this month after Noble Drilling US pleaded guilty to committing environmental and maritime crimes during the abortive program. Noble Drilling US President Bernie G. Wolford Jr. appeared in federal court in Anchorage on Dec. 19 after reaching an agreement with US Department of Justice prosecutors earlier this month. The company paid an $8.2 million fine and $4 million in community service payments.
