Methane hydrates are usually in the shadows of its bigger cousins like the shale and conventional gas plays. But it did get a shout out during a panel discussion on methane emissions at the recent IHS CeraWeek 2014 conference held in Houston. Locked in an ice lattice below the world's seas or under permafrost above the Arctic Circle, methane hydrates need to be studied and understood as both an energy source and its possible impact on global climate change.
