摘要

Stroke is a common cause of mortality and morbidity worldwide. Patients who survive an initial stroke are at a significantly increased risk for future strokes compared with the general population; a systematic review and meta-analysis showed that the cumulative risk of stroke recurrence was 3.1% at 30 days, 11.1% at 1 year, 26.4% at 5 years and 39.2% at 10 years [1]. Moreover, recurrent strokes are more likely to be disabling or fatal compared with the first stroke [2]. Therefore, secondary prevention after the first stroke is important. The prevention of recurrent strokes has been one of the major therapeutic advances in stroke management over the past 30 years [3]. For secondary prevention in stroke survivors, the knowledge and perception of recurrent stroke risks and risk factors and the appropriate lifestyle modifications that are necessary to minimize risk are essential.
