Azerbaijan’s Greek Gambit Under Threat

A deal signed more than 18 months ago for Azerbaijan’s state energy giant Socar to acquire a 66% stake in Greek state gas transmission company Desfa is close to unraveling as the Greek government continues to send mixed signals about what to do with one of its most strategic assets (NC May7’15). Analysts say the longer the uncertainty over Desfa lingers, the more it plays into the hands of Russia, which wants Greece to join a planned new European hub that would pump Russian gas via the proposed Turk Stream pipeline.
