The departure of France’s Total and Germany’s E.On from the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (Tap) group that will supply Caspian gas to Italy, easing Europe’s dependence on Russia, was confirmed this week as it was announced that Italian gas transmission firm Enagas was taking a 16% stake in the consortium. Switzerland-based Tap is building the final, 870 km leg of the 3,000 km Southern Gas Corridor that will deliver 10 Bcm/yr of gas from Azerbaijan’s BP-operated Shah Deniz field to Europe via Turkey from late 2019 (p1).
