Rosneft’s agreement this week to sell stakes in two East Siberian upstream developments to Indian companies highlights a couple of important trends: First, it shows that there is much less of a place for resource nationalism in Russia under low oil prices and limited access to finances; second, it demonstrates how the Indians outperformed the Chinese, who were offered the same assets but failed to meet Rosneft’s expectations.
