Field studies were conducted at Horticulture Research Station, Arsikere, Hassan District, Karnataka during 2007-08 to develop integrated nutrient management practices for holy basil as intercrop in coconut garden. Treatments include: T1, recommended practice (10 t FYM + 120:80:60 NPK kg/ha); T2, recommended NPK through fertilizers (120:80:60 NPK kg/ha); T3, 100% N through FYM; T4, 100% N through Vermicompost (VC); T5, 100% N through Composted Coir Pith (CCP); T6, 50% N through FYM + 50% NPK through fertilizers; T7, 50% N through VC + 50% NPK through fertilizers; T8, 50% N through CCP + 50% NPK through fertilizers. Dry matter accumulation was maximum with the recommended practice of 10 t/ha FYM + recommended NPK through fertilizers followed by integrated treatments of organic and inorganic source of nutrients and recommended NPK through fertilizers. The uptake of N, P and K by holy basil crop was found to be highest with the application of 50% N through FYM + 50% NPK through fertilizers followed by recommended practice of 10 t/ha FYM + recommended NPK through fertilizers. The organic carbon content in the soil was improved in all the treatments except recommended NPK through fertilizers and application of 100% N through CCP. The available N and K in soil were improved in the recommended practice of 10 t/ha FYM + recommended NPK through fertilizers and integration of 50% N through FYM/VC/CCP + 50% NPK through fertilizers. Improvement in available P in soil was observed in the recommended practice and application of 50% N through FYM/VC + 50% NPK through fertilizers.
